The artist Robert Hannaford told the NSW Supreme Court yesterday he was not commissioned to paint 10 portraits for the Black Chicks Talking project, conceived by the actor Leah Purcell, her partner, Bain Stewart, and developed by their company Bungabura. Hannaford disputes Bungabura's contention it owns the paintings and is suing for their return. He denied that he signed a receiptfor $1000 on the understanding it was a deposit for commissioning the works.

The man who shot Des Moran was wearing a "Dickie Knee" disguise like the character on the TV show Hey, Hey It's Saturday, a court has been told. Belinda Burt told the Victorian Supreme Court in Melbourne yesterday that she was walking along Union Road, Ascot Vale, when she saw a man standing in the doorway of the cafe. She heard several shots and saw the man holding a revolver before he ran off. She said he had a "Dickie Knee" cap with fake dark hair. Mr Moran was shot dead at a cafe on June 15, 2009. The prosecution says his sister-in-law Judy Moran, who had a financial dispute with him, drove the getaway car and disposed of the evidence. She has pleaded not guilty to murder. The jury was told Mr Moran was also overheard arguing months before his death with Suzanne Kane, a close friend of his sister-in-law, because he believed Ms Kane had stolen $200,000 worth of secretly stashed drugs.

Father denies accusation

The father of dead teenager Jai Morcom has been warned he could face Supreme Court charges after allegedly accusing a coronial inquiry witness of killing his son. The Deputy Coroner, Hugh Dillon, made the warning on day four of the coronial inquiry into Jai's death following a brawl at Mullumbimby High School in 2009. Mr Dillon asked the boy's father, Steve Drummond, pictured, if he had made the comment "you murdered my son" to the witness inside Lismore courthouse yesterday morning. Mr Drummond responded by "categorically" denying it. The Coroner said if there was "even the slightest hint" of a witness being intimidated or threatened it would lead to charges of contempt of court.
